Naturalization: 3 tips if you are from Iraq!

This video offers three important tips for Iraqis who wish to acquire German citizenship:

1 **New naturalization law:** Under the new naturalization law in Germany, Naturalization is possible for Iraqis after just three years of residence, provided they have a C1 language certificate. Without this certificate, Naturalization is also possible after three years, but there are additional requirements.

2 **Double citizenship:** Germany now allows dual citizenship. Iraqi citizens can therefore acquire German citizenship without having to give up their Iraqi citizenship. Alternatively, they can decide to keep only their German citizenship.

3 **Legalization of birth certificates:** A common problem for Iraqis is the legalization of birth certificates, as the Iraqi embassy does not currently issue legalizations. If you have a valid Iraqi national passport, you do not need a legalized birth certificate. If no passport is available, there may still be possibilities to become naturalized, even if the legal situation is more complicated.

In summary, new legal regulations make the naturalization process considerably easier, although bureaucratic hurdles such as the legalization of documents remain. İf in doubt, a specific identity test can help.
