Naturalization process briefly explained

The process step by step

1. Free test

Why is the free test essential for you?
Our law firm helps with Naturalization in Germany. Many people, around 12 million, do not have a German passport and need help. Our Free test will check whether we can help you. If the test is positive, you have taken the first important step on the way to Naturalization .

2nd telephone call

Initial telephone assessment from our law firm
After a positive test result, we will contact you by telephone. In this conversation, we will check the information you provided in the test. Sometimes there are uncertainties because legal issues can be complex. We also need some personal information that was not asked for in the test, for example about your legal history. We prefer to discuss these sensitive issues directly. If all the requirements are met, you have the opportunity to become a client of Migrando Rechtsanwälte.

4th file

Welcome: Your file is open
Once we have created your file, we will prepare the naturalization application. We need some documents from you to send the application to the relevant naturalization authority. Every naturalization case is unique, so our team will check exactly which documents you need to give us. Once this has been clarified, we will send you an e-mail with a list of the required documents. For a better understanding, here are the most frequently used documents:
  • residence permit
  • Proof of income (e.g. employment contract, payslip, employer confirmation from boss)
  • Information on pension insurance (if necessary)
  • Language certificate (or school certificates or training qualification)
  • Naturalization test (or school certificates or educational qualification)
  • National passport (if necessary)
  • Rental agreement
  • Proof of health insurance
  • Registration certificate from the residents' registration office
  • A passport photo
This list is only a rough overview. Sometimes we need more or less papers. Once you have our e-mail with the list, take your time. Collect everything we need and send us copies by post. Please make sure that everything is clearly legible and organized.

5. documents

Documents checked, confirmed and submitted
When we receive your documents, we check them carefully. If something is missing, we will contact you. If you cannot find something, we will help you. Once we have all the documents, we will send the substantiated application to the Naturalization Office. The right application and the right documents are very important. As experts, we take care of this. Once the reasoned application has been submitted with all the documents, we have to wait 10 weeks.

6. after submission of the application

What happens 10 weeks after submitting your application
After we have submitted your application, the naturalization authority has 12 weeks by law to process it. Shortly before this period expires, after about 10 weeks, we will remind the authority of this deadline. If they do not process your application in time, we will point out the possibility of Lawsuit for failure of act . Our experience shows that your application is then often processed quickly. The authorities know our law firm and know that we will consistently stand up for your rights. This usually motivates them to process your application quickly in order to avoid further legal action.

7. naturalization date

The naturalization date
In the final step, we will inform you of your naturalization appointment. It is extremely important to attend this appointment to avoid delays. After the appointment, the naturalization process should usually be completed. However, should any unexpected problems arise, please inform us immediately by e-mail so that we can ensure that your naturalization process is completed successfully.

Additional information

Please pay attention to our emails throughout the entire naturalization process and read them carefully. If you have any uncertainties or questions, we are there for you by e-mail. We document every step of the process and keep you fully informed. Our aim is to ensure that you are always in the picture and that the path to Naturalization runs smoothly.

We answer your questions

The governing parties agreed on the new law in May 2023. In order for it to be enforced and come into force, it must be promulgated in the Federal Law Gazette. We expect it to be promulgated in the next few days. A start date of June 1, 2024 is therefore realistic.

Currently, the minimum period of residence for Naturalization is 8 years. This is set to change with the new Naturalization Act. The same requirements will apply as before, but Naturalization can be applied for after 5 years of legal residence if all other requirements are met.

The new law simplifies the path to Naturalization. Naturalization is to be possible after 5 years instead of the previous 8 years. This would shorten the legal period of residence. Those who can prove that they have a high level of professional qualifications, are involved in voluntary work and have demonstrated special integration achievements can be naturalized after just 3 years. The ban on dual citizenship in Section 10 (4) StAG would be completely removed. This means that dual citizenship would then be legally permitted.

As positive as the plans for the new Naturalization Act are. This does not make Naturalization any faster. The new Naturalization Act is likely to result in even more applications. The authorities are already overwhelmed. This overload will continue to increase. There will also be more appeals for failure to act. Without legal support such as that provided by Migrando, we do not believe that Naturalization can be achieved in less than 4 years. Therefore: Apply for Naturalization as soon as possible, with the support of Migrando is the fastest way!

The costs for Naturalization remain the same. One Naturalization costs 255 euros per person and for underage children who are naturalized with their parents, 51 euros must be paid per child. This amount must be paid to the competent authority.

Currently, dual citizenship with Germany is only possible with EU countries and Switzerland. There are also exceptions if the citizenship of the home country cannot be transferred. These exceptions are set out in § 12 StAG. With the new Naturalization Act, everyone in Germany should have dual citizenship in the future, as the renunciation of citizenship according to § 10 para. 4 StAG and the exception § 12 StAG will no longer apply:
