Applications for Naturalization be submitted online in Dortmund
Anyone who lives in Dortmund and would like to apply for German citizenship can now submit their application directly via an online service. The application is then sent digitally to the Office for Migration.
At the beginning, there is a "quick check." This allows interested parties to check whether they meet the most important requirements for Naturalization. If the requirements are met, applicants are automatically redirected to the actual online form.
Documents can be uploaded digitally
All important information about the person, their stay, work, and family is entered in the online form. Necessary documents can also be uploaded directly—for example, the passport, the Residence permit, registration certificates, or language certificates.
Once completed, the application is sent electronically to the naturalization office of the Office for Migration. After submission, applicants receive a confirmation.
To apply, you must first register via the federal user account (BundID). The fee can also be paid directly online.
Naturalization process still takes several months
But even though the application can now be submitted digitally, processing it still takes a long time. According to the city of Dortmund, the process can currently take around six to eight months. One of the reasons for this is that various security authorities are involved in the process.
At the end of the process, there is an appointment with the authorities on site: the naturalization certificate will still be handed over in person. Nevertheless, the city hopes that the new digital application will make the process easier and clearer overall.
