Foreigners' office of Fake Emails and Letters
According to a statement on the City of Magdeburg’s website, two cases have come to light so far in which forged letters were sent in the name of Foreigners' office. In one case, a student legally residing in Germany received an email demanding that he return to his country of origin. The message gave the impression Foreigners' office from the Magdeburg Foreigners' office . In fact, however, it was a forgery.
In another case, a forged letter addressed to a German embassy abroad surfaced. Here, too, the name of the Magdeburg Foreigners' office is said to have been Foreigners' office used to deceive the recipient.
It is still unclear who is behind the fake messages and what the senders’ motives are. The city administration has therefore filed a criminal complaint. At the same time, it warns that other fake letters or emails may still be in circulation.
