Residence Permit for Integration: When Is It Acceptable Not to Have a Secure Source of Income?
Anyone in Germany who wishes to apply for or renew a residence permit under Section 25b of the Residence Act must prove that their livelihood is largely secured. However, this is particularly difficult for people who are unable to work due to illness, disability, or old age. A recent ruling by the Federal Administrative Court now clarifies when this requirement may be waived. Is it sufficient that an illness makes work impossible—or can other reasons also play a role?
