What is a naturalization guarantee?

The video explains the assurance of naturalization and its significance, especially in light of the new Naturalization Act, which comes into force in June 2024. You receive a naturalization assurance if all requirements are met and the application has been submitted to the naturalization authority. There is currently no dual citizenship in Germany, which is why you will first receive a confirmation of naturalization after fulfilling the requirements. As soon as you give up the citizenship of your country of origin, it can be exchanged for a German passport.

The process includes the translation of the assurance of naturalization, the visit to the embassy of the country of origin for the release of citizenship, and the subsequent conversion of the assurance of naturalization into a naturalization certificate. The entire process usually takes three to six months. With the new Naturalization Act, the assurance of naturalization will no longer be required, and from June 2024 anyone in Germany will be able to obtain dual citizenship.
