New Naturalization Act: What the Bundestag said on 30 November 2023

The video discusses the new naturalization law in Germany, which was debated in the Bundestag on 30 November. The law is intended to make Germany more modern and competitive. Parties such as the SPD, Greens, FDP and DIE LINKE support the law, while the AFD and CDU are against it.

Main changes include:

Naturalization after 5 years (instead of 8) or after 3 years with C1 language certificate and good integration.

Introduction of dual citizenship.

German citizenship for children born in Germany if one parent has a permanent right of residence and has lived in Germany for at least five years.

The timetable envisages that the law could be passed between January and March 2024. However, there are risks: New elections could change the majority situation and cause the legislative initiative to fail, especially if the CDU and AFD gain influence. Internal disagreement within the parties could also jeopardize the law. It is recommended that you find out about naturalization options now and take the test at migrando.de.
