From 2024, new requirements will apply for the granting of Settlement permit in Germany. The most important changes include stricter language skills requirements, extended integration certificates and higher income limits. However, there are reliefs for students and highly qualified workers: They can be exempted from some requirements if they work in occupations where there is a shortage of skilled workers in Germany.

New rules also apply to family reunification: Spouses and children can now move to Germany more easily if they can prove that they have adequate accommodation and health insurance.
