Naturalization: 3 tips if you're from Ukraine!

If you come from Ukraine and want to be naturalized quickly, there are three important tips:

Tip 1: New naturalization law
A new law allows Naturalization after 3 years with C1 language level or after 5 years. You can keep your dual citizenship regardless of the course of the Ukraine conflict.

Tip 2: National passport
A valid Ukrainian national passport is not required, as the Ukrainian embassy does not issue new passports. You can also prove your identity with other documents such as an expired passport or a birth certificate.

Tip 3: Residence permit
Many Ukrainians who came to Germany after February 2022 have the Residence permit in accordance with paragraph 24, which does not allow you to use Naturalization directly. Therefore, switch to another Residence permit in good time, e.g. paragraph 18a, 18b, 19d, 25a, 25b. This is particularly important as paragraph 24 is often not extended and only a fictitious certificate is issued instead. Use free tests on migrando.de to find out whether you can switch to Settlement permit .
